Questions and Answers

  • What ages are able to register?  FGYB allows players Pre-K (age 4) to 8th grade (age 14).  We use school birthdates for eligible registrations.  Please register your player by their current grade.  Contact us if your child has a unique circumstance.

  • How many teams are at each level?
On average, we estimate having 8-10 T-Ball teams, 6-8 Rookie teams, as well as teams represented at the National, American and Federal level for Minors, Juniors and Seniors.

  • When will I find out who my child’s coach is?
All players will be notified of their coach and team assignment by the end of March.

  • When do practices start?
It is at the coach’s discretion, but generally practices begin the week after spring break. Some teams may elect to start practicing prior to spring break.

  • When do games start?
Instructional League games are played during April and May.  The JBO season runs from April to mid-July.

  • Are there weekend games?
For T-Ball and Rookies level, possibly one or two Saturday games.  For Minor level and above, yes. Each team will play in at least one weekend tournament, and most teams will opt to play in additional weekend tournaments at varying locations throughout the season. Tournaments may begin prior to league play.

  • Are there extra costs for weekend tournaments?
Costs for all other weekend tournaments are the responsibility of the participating team.

  • Where are the league games?
TBall and Rookies will play in FG. JBO teams travel to surrounding towns in the Westside Youth Baseball district.  Away games may involve teams at any or all Westside associations.

  • What is the purpose of the player evaluations in the competitive leagues?
Player evaluations provide a means to place kids on teams that are consistent with each player’s individual skill level.

  • When are the player evaluations?
Evaluations are held in February or early March at different times depending on your child’s age and grade in school. Check the Latest News section on the Homepage or visit our Facebook page for the latest information on dates and times.

  • Who evaluates my child’s skill level?
The team of evaluators are made up of Forest Grove Youth Baseball  coaches and other knowledgeable members of the local baseball community.  Scores and notes from the evaluations are used for team and skill level placement.

  • What if my child cannot attend the player evaluations on the scheduled date?  In the event of exceptional circumstances that prevents a player from attending evaluations, contact [email protected] to discuss options. Registered players who cannot attend the scheduled evaluations will be placed at the lowest skill level.

  • When can I expect to hear at what level my child will play?
After evaluations are completed, a draft is held for each team. We expect to complete the draft no later than a week after tryouts are completed. When the team draft is complete, players will be notified of their team assignment within 48 hours.  We expect to complete the draft within the week following the evaluation process and players may be asked to return for callbacks and further evaluation.  Players will be notified of their team placement by the end of March.

  • What are the governing rules for FGYB?
As a club, we operate under established bylaws and have an operating manual.  These documents are available upon request from the Forest Grove Youth Baseball President or Secretary.  All baseball play is governed by National Federation of State High School Association rules, with JBO-specific modifications.  JBO rules can be found on the JBO website.

  • If I have more than one child playing for Forest Grove Youth Baseball, do I get a discount?
There is a $20 discount on the second child if you have more than one child playing in the league and BOTH children must be registered at the same time to receive the discount.  There is only one discount for additional children, not a discount for each additional child playing.  For example, if you have three children playing, the discount is still only a total of $20.

  • If I pay and then my child is no longer able to play, can my registration fee be refunded to me?
There are no refunds once practices begin.  To request a refund prior to April, please submit a request by email at [email protected]

  • Who do I talk to if I have more questions?
Send an email to us at  [email protected]
